5e Error in DBG.TXT - Known Fixes

Xardon

If you crash out after Server Select or Char Select and you check your dbg.txt file in your EQ-SoD install directory and you see the following line:

ERROR: Unexpected message: 5e

Here are known work arounds to fix the problem:

1. Locate your EQW folder under your EQ-SoD install folder.
-> a. Delete the file eqw.ini (configuration file)
-> b. Patch And Run, should be good to go.

2. Locate your EQCLIENT.INI file in your EQ-Sod install folder.
-> a. Delete your eqclient.ini file (configuration file)
-> b. Patch And Run, should be good to go.

3. Reboot BOTH your Cable/DSL Modem as well as your Switch/Firewall.

**Please Note** Unexpected message: 5e is just a generic error code, the listed fixes are not 100% guaranteed.

Thanks.

I was able to help people get through this problem several times with this fix, it would be nice if those people still checked in to verify it for me. :)

I have been having the error problem from time to time.
I've tried this fix and it seems to help a great deal.
The problem still returns from time to time but it isn't as major as before.

A week or two ago, option #1 fixed my problem.
Got it again today, and it didn't.

Option #2 fixed it this time.

Not sure why either time. Thanks Xardon!

I had the 5e error constantly at one point. I tried both fixes, both didn't work for me.
I *did* install some programs before starting EQ, both of which prompted me to restart, but being the obnoxious IT person that I am I never restart unless my computer is having problems.

So I restarted, and that was the end of 5e. Now, it could be that either fix + restart would have worked, while restarting itself might not have, but it's something people tend to forget they're able to do. Restart once in a while, it's good for your computer!

X.

None of these are working for me, I started getting error 2 days ago.

I am getting it now on both computers. =/

Can't log in on either one of em.

In my experience, it's a connection problem. I've seen it pretty well correlated with getting response times of over 500ms on ping commands.
Sometimes rebooting the router will fix it. Sometimes you just need to wait it out (ping is pretty good at telling you when you can log on again).

I usualy debug and bought 2 or 3 tries i can get on but recently i did it like 5 times and i saw the steps here so i did step number 2 and that fixed it for me.

#1 fixed it.

by the way, my shards of dalaya ping returns 100% packet loss, time out... i dunno why, but i am in a dorm in college... and lately there has been an ass downloading crap... anywho, im able to log in now, so idk

Tried this but didnt worked

I get:

[Thu Apr 10 18:28:39 2008]00123:WorldAuthenticate. I got a message of type 5e...

Think I have this error though I don't see the unexpected 5e message.

1. one account can always log on ( doesn't matter which as long log on separately )
2. second account to attempt log on quits before character selection. sometimes after I pick a character though it gives an eqmain.dll or eqggame error message.
