Crash while zoning

Still having trouble :/

I did the patch which only actually took about 1 minute surprisingly. It might be very slightly better but maybe not, I still crash about 90% of the time when I zone. Anything else I can try?

I was doing the main quest tonight and I was playing with just one account instead of both, and I seemed to be able to zone more often. I did get the crash a couple of times but it was more like 1 in 10 rather than 9 in 10 when I'm using both accounts.

I wish I knew what that meant though. I have a nice PC with dual cores and plenty of RAM and a fast net connection so I can't think why one account would be less crashy than two.

It was so tired of it I just completely uninstalled and deleted everything then reinstalled everything again from scratch and then repatched. It made no difference :(

1.) Uninstall EQ and remove all current/old EQ files.

2.) Reinstall EQ: Titanium.

3.) Download the SoD patcher and zone files.

4.) Enjoy playing with minimal crashing.

Are you using the aforementioned version?

Yep that's exactly what I did today. I uninstalled EQ, deleted all the files and folders left over. Then reinstalled the game from scratch with my original titanium disks, then added the map files, ran the SoD patcher, and played the game, but it still happens, nearly every zone.

I've tried using both or using the bind affinity to use one core. It doesn't seem to make a difference.

Anyone have any more ideas of things I could try? Or is this just a none-solvable issue maybe?

I'm currently playing by running everywhere with my first character, then logging him out and closing the client, then doing the same journey with my second character. Then trying over and over to get the first client back on at the same time (which takes several tries), and eventually I will have the two characters where I want them. It works, but it's real hard work.

The main quest has been nice because I have just been doing that with one character and I seem to be able to zone much more often when I am just running one client. As soon as I get the second client open though, it starts getting bad and I end up at the server select on about 95% of zones.

Also, since I reinstalled the game, I have a new problem now which makes things even worse than it was to begin with. After I 'crash' back to server select after zoning, I now get error 1017 consistently. I find that if I keep pressing enter over and over, it tries and it tries to connect, and eventually (sometimes after about 7 tries) it will finally connect. It's a lot of hard work though and really takes away a lot of the enjoyment. It's weird too because I'm playing on the exact same PC that I played on earlier this year, and I had no problem like this then. I'm not sure what could have changed, and whether it's my pc or something with SoD.

This sounds like a very common problem people used to have running two toons off the same account before it was forbidden. Are you running both toons off the same account?

Also, there's a new patcher (I'm not even sure the old patcher still works so this might be fishing in the dark). Try deleting all SoD files and then downloading the new patcher from scratch.

As I mentioned earlier, I also have the exact same issue so you are not alone in this. To answer Budrick's question I have all my characters on separate accounts. I have 2 separate computers that do this and I also noticed this after I took a break from the game for about 4 months and started playing again in May of this year. When the server isn't busy, I usually don't have any problems. After 250 people are logged in I start having some serious issues with logging in.
I didn't mean to hijack your thread but I thought it was important to let you know that I have the same issue.

All my characters are on their own, unique accounts, as per the rules. As for the patcher etc, I have completely uninstalled the entire game and everything to do with it, and then reinstalled everything from scratch, and patched with the very latest patcher. If anything it has made things worse, because I still have the old problem as bad as ever, but now I also have a problem with it giving me error 1017 almost every time I try to log in. I have to click about a dozen times until it finally goes through.

This all makes the game barely playable for me at the moment. Every time I zone, I crash to server select, and then it gives me a string of about 10 error 1017's in a row until it lets me back in. So basically, every time I have to zone in the game.. it's a 15 minute chore, just to cross the zone line, on every zone. So doing a journey to Heartlands for example, from the bank in Newport, requires me zoning 6 times. Six times 15 minutes is an hour and a half of trouble, just crossing zone lines. Combine that with the actual running time, and it makes that a 2 hour mission. So I when I say LFG and someone invites me to the Heartlands or High Keep etc, I just have to turn it down because I never make it in time :(

It sounds like we have the exact same problem, only, I still seem to experience it even when the server is not busy.

As I said in an earlier post, I am convinced the problem is to do with duo-boxing. It may be different for each of us though, but for me, I find that if I just play 1 character, then I can zone about 90% of the time. When I am playing both my characters, I crash on 95% of the zones. I wish I knew a way to trouble shoot this myself, but I just have no idea :( It's not a PC problem because I played on this exact same PC just several months ago, and the game ran perfectly. It's not a corruption of the software because I've done a complete reinstall twice. And it doesn't seem to be any of the cache settings either because I've tried those. I really have no idea :(

I really hope someone can help me fix this eventually, because once I reach 65, I just don't think I would be able to play the game like this. I can't really group because if we have to zone, I won't be there on the other side to heal people etc. And there is no chance I could do raids because I probably just wouldn't even make it to the raid location on time. And whenever we have to camp or do /refresh to get rid of the LD bug, I end up getting the crash, and then getting error 1017. So every time we need to refresh, I am gone for about 15 minutes.

--------edit----------

The only thing I can think of that has changed on my end since I last played, is my internet connection. I used to have a 2mbit connection, now I have a 20mbit connection. Not sure whether that could be it or not.

Hi emachine and thanks for the response.
I did the test and my results were between 22 - 36ms with an average of 25ms.
In going with the request above, I have not changed anything on my PC with the exception of adding Memory on the one computer and there has been no changes on the other computer.

It's a long shot, but try defragging. Especially if you've done an uninstall/reinstall. It helped on one of my machines.

Typically, all 50 pings will receive a Reply message like above. Are you seeing any other messages besides Reply, such as "Request timed out." or "TTL Expired in Transit."?

Thanks for the reply! I did the pinging.

My stats are:

0% packet loss
Approx round trip times in milliseconds:

minimum = 98
maximum = 114
average = 101

what are your general geographic locations (are you east-coast-ish?) and what ISPs are you using? Perhaps if a commonality can be determined, something can be figured out here.

I live in the UK. I am on cable internet (Virgin Media).

It's a long shot, but try defragging. Especially if you've done an uninstall/reinstall. It helped on one of my machines.

I defrag regularly using O&O Defrag software, and I've done that since I've been having this problem, so I don't think that is it :( Thanks for the suggestion though. Keep 'em coming if you can.

Thanks again to you both.
I also defrag on a regular basis. I live in Canada, SW Ontario region. I have a regular cable internet connection. I went to speedtest.net and did a test just now. I am getting 2100kbs download and 475kbs upload. Since I'm not playing SoD I am downloading a few things. I have seen it as high as a 9Mbs download before.

Thanks again emachine74! I just did that now, and (luckily? :p) it crashed on the second zone. So I loaded one of my characters in, who was in (insert the SoD name for Velketor's Labyrinth here). I zoned out in to Great Divide which worked fine. Then I tried to zone back in to the dungeon, and it froze for about 5 minutes or so, and then went back to server select. I quit the game and opened that file.

It is enormous and it's all today's date so I just cut the last few dozen lines or so, rather than the whole enormous thing. Here is:

NOTE: I read through it myself and although I don't know what it all means, the part that mentions something going wrong is this:
